Hannah, a Doberman Pinscher, and Hannibal, a Mastiff, had both passed when their family commissioned this portrait. The work began with a collection of personal photographs taken at different times and under different conditions. No single image contained the final portrait. Each contributed a different piece of reliable visual information.

Everyday snapshots may hold the expression, markings and character needed to begin. The studio evaluates the photographs collectively and honestly to determine what is possible.

Reference photographs are assessed for useful visual information not judged as finished photographs. Additional images may be requested when the available material is not sufficient for an honest, convincing portrait.

After approval, the portrait is prepared for professional fine-art printing and its chosen presentation.
We establish the composition, mood, approximate size and presentation before the portrait is developed.

Created to become
part of the family.
The original commission was produced as a 20 × 16-inch portrait on canvas. It brought two beloved companions remembered through separate, informal photographs into one finished work.
