Which Portrait Is Right for You?
Choosing a portrait is a personal decision, shaped by how you wish to remember and honor your pet.
Legacy Pet Studio offers three portrait levels—Foundation, Signature, and Legacy—each defined by artistic interpretation rather than size alone.
Each level reflects a different degree of artistic involvement and is intended to serve a different purpose, from refined simplicity to heirloom legacy.
How to Think About the Choice
Rather than asking “Which size do I want?” or “Which option costs more?”, consider:
How significant this portrait feels to you
Whether you want faithful clarity or deeper artistic expression
How and where the portrait will live in your home
Whether this is a moment, a milestone, or a memorial
There is no right or wrong choice—only the choice that best aligns with your intentions.
Foundation Portrait
Refined Simplicity
A Foundation Portrait focuses on faithful likeness and timeless presentation. These portraits are intentionally restrained, allowing the subject to stand clearly and confidently without added narrative or atmosphere.
This level is ideal if you want a portrait that feels calm, honest, and beautifully finished without strong stylistic interpretation.
A Foundation Portrait may be right for you if:
You value simplicity and clarity
You prefer a clean, understated presentation
You want a classic portrait that blends easily into your space
You are commissioning a portrait as a celebration rather than a statement
This portrait answers the question: “Is this my dog?”
Signature Portrait
Expressive Balance
A Signature Portrait allows for deeper artistic involvement while remaining grounded in realism. Lighting, tone, and subtle environmental elements are used to bring forward personality and presence without overpowering the subject.
This is the most commonly chosen level and offers a balance between faithful representation and artistic voice.
A Signature Portrait may be right for you if:
You want the portrait to feel personal and expressive
You are drawn to subtle mood and presence
You want the artwork to hold visual weight in a room
You value artistic judgment but still want realism
This portrait answers the question: “Does this feel like my dog?”
Legacy Portrait
Heirloom Presence
A Legacy Portrait is a deeply interpretive, heirloom-quality work created to honor a life with intention and permanence. These portraits often incorporate atmosphere, narrative, or symbolic elements and are designed to carry emotional and visual weight over time.
This level is best suited for memorial pieces or portraits intended as once-in-a-lifetime works.
A Legacy Portrait may be right for you if:
The portrait carries emotional or memorial significance
You want the artwork to feel timeless and enduring
You are comfortable allowing artistic interpretation
You envision this piece as a permanent part of your home
This portrait answers the question: “Does this honor my dog?”
A Note on Size and Framing
Portrait size affects visual presence, not artistic depth. All portrait levels are available in multiple sizes, and guidance is provided during consultation to ensure the scale suits the composition and intended display.
Custom hardwood framing is available for select portraits and is designed as an architectural companion to the artwork. Framing options are discussed after the portrait level has been chosen.
Still Unsure?
Many clients arrive with an initial preference that becomes clearer through conversation.
If you’re uncertain which level is right for you, begin with an inquiry. Guidance is provided throughout the process to help you make a confident, informed decision.
